Peter Fiedler was the first captain of the nuclear cruiser USS Texas (CGN-39) from October 1975 to January 1979. He supervised construction, and took official command on September 10, 1977, when the cruiser was commissioned.
The Navy Commendation Medal was awarded for either an act of heroism or meritorious achievements or service. The medal was established by the US Navy in November 1943 and awarded retroactively beginning on December 6, 1941.Collection
