Cap belonging to William Kemper Fording. Cap is stamped "FORDING, W. K." and has "TAS" written in marker. Paint stains on top.

Context

Battleship Texas participated in Operation “Magic Carpet,” the return of American armed forces to the United States, from September 24, 1945, to December 24, 1945. William Fording was onboard Battleship Texas during Operation “Magic Carpet” from Honolulu, Hawaii to San Francisco, California. Dress Blues were the standard uniform for the enlisted sailor in the Navy, and included a jumper, trousers, white hat, and blue cap. Patches denoting sailor rate were on their right arm. Sailors also received handkerchiefs, socks, and many other articles.
