Context

The Washington Naval Treaty was signed in 1922, ending new battleship construction for ten years. As a result, Battleship Texas underwent significant modernization from July 31, 1925, to November 23, 1926. William Hynes was a veteran of World War I, who later joined the crew of Battleship Texas from December 31, 1922, to July 24, 1925. He joined the crew as a WT1c and left as a MM1c. Service records obtained while a crew member of Battleship Texas.
