Battleship Texas began preparations for Operation “Torch,” the invasion of Northern Africa, on July 29, 1942. She departed Norfolk for Morocco on October 23, supported the landings from November 8 to November 15, and returned to the US on November 26, 1942.
Harold E. Nichols Jr. was a draftee, called to service on July 28, 1941. He later joined the Marine Detachment on Battleship Texas from March 19, 1942, to March 17, 1944, participated in Operation “Torch,” and served throughout the remainder of World War II.
Many crew members kept photo albums that each have dozens of photos chronicling their service onboard.Collection
