Context

USS New York (BB-34) was the sister ship of USS Texas, and the lead ship of the New York-class battleships. She was commissioned from May 15, 1914, to August 29, 1946. In May of 1937, USS New York carried Admiral Rodman, President Roosevelt’s personal representative for the coronation of King George VI of the United Kingdom. Charles F. Zinnante was initially in the Navy from 1935 to 1939.  He served on USS Detroit and Hamilton before being assigned to Battleship New York in 1937.  He then served on several destroyers and was discharged as a S1c.  He rejoined the Navy in 1942 and served in the European and Pacific Theaters earning four battle stars.  He was discharged as a CTM in 1945.
