William Hynes was a veteran of World War I, who later joined the crew of Battleship Texas from December 31, 1922, to July 24, 1925. He joined the crew as a WT1c and left as a MM1c.
The New York State Service Medal is one of fourteen states to similarly grant medals to their returning citizens. Over 500,000 military personnel received this medal beginning on March 13, 1919.Collection
