Description

Large wooden chest owned by Charles Pratt sometime after leaving the crew of Battleship Texas. Chest originally had balls on the bottom corners letting the whole thing roll. Only two remain. Top has a joint allowing the lid to open partially or fully, and has four screw holes on each side, sixteen in all. Front has an aluminum plaque "LIEUT. CHAS. R. PRATT, U.S. NAVY, BOX #2" The top has a sticker for Conard Lines on top of a much more faded larger sticker. The Line sticker shows a trip aboard the ocean liner Queen Elizabeth from New York to Southampton. Sticker has been worn down over years.

Context

Charles Pratt was an ensign onboard Battleship Texas for a brief time in 1921 and would continue to serve in the Navy until 1942. He collected much throughout his military life and beyond.
