Coffee table owned by peter Fiedler and made by his wardroom officers from USS Texas (CGN-39) and made from the wooden hatch of a World War II liberty ship. The entire top of the table is covered in a thick layer of epoxy.Context
USS Texas (CGN-39) was the 3rd ship named USS Texas. She was a Virginia-class nuclear guided-missile cruiser commissioned from September 10, 1977, to July 16, 1993. She entered the nuclear recycling program on October 1, 1999.
Peter Fiedler was the first captain of the nuclear cruiser USS Texas (CGN-39) from October 1975 to January 1979. He supervised construction, and took official command on September 10, 1977, when the cruiser was commissioned.
The Surface Warfare Officer pin is worn by officers on surface combat ships like cruisers. The pin was authorized in November 1974 and still worn today.
