One of two items donated by Laurence Davis, the son of Battleship New York crew member Bernard A. Webb Jr. Tri-fold certificate with title “SUBPOENA AND SUMMONS EXTRAORDINARY” For Bernard A. Webb, Jr. Interior when unfolded is in a regular print layout and signed at the bottom by Davy Jones.

Context

USS New York (BB-34) was the sister ship of USS Texas, and the lead ship of the New York-class battleships. She was commissioned from May 15, 1914, to August 29, 1946. Certificate marks a sailor crossing over the equator for the first time. It is not an official award within the US Navy. Webb’s crossing, and subsequent ceremony occurrred on USS New York.
