Entries 2025.1001.23 through 2025.1001.99 were taken out of the significantly deteriorated pages of at least one photo album belonging to Texas crew members and bought by BTF. The album photos date to the early to mid 1920s. Each photo had writing on the pages of the book, now discarded. The caption formerly on the page for this photo read,
“Norfolk Navy Yard.”
Features many buildings to the right of a cobblestone road. Captioned at top the same as in the book, “Navy Yard Norfolk.”Context
The Washington Naval Treaty was signed in 1922, ending new battleship construction for ten years. As a result, Battleship Texas underwent significant modernization from July 31, 1925, to November 23, 1926.
