Context

Joseph Nemanic enlisted on October 22, 1921, just one day after his friend John Dergantz on October 21, 1921. They both joined the crew of Battleship Texas in February 1922. Both men were Marine gunners, likely manning 3”/50cal guns. Nemanic left Texas in July 1923, while Dergantz left the following year in July 1924. After their service, the two became in-laws.
