Context

Battleship Texas departed the Mediterranean on September 4, 1944, to return to the United States for overhaul from September 14 to November 10. She passed through the Panama Canal into the Atlantic Ocean on November 19, and conducted gunnery practice in Hawaii from December 9, 1944, to January 9, 1945. John E. Robson served on Battleship Texas beginning on October 16, 1943. He was made a MM3c on May 20, 1944, a MM2c on August 1, 1945, and departed from the ship on November 16, 1945. He was a supporter of turning Battleship Texas into a museum and visited regularly for veteran reunions. The crew of Battleship Texas made holiday cards and gifts for those back home, and occasionally held holiday events when in port.
