Context

Battleship Texas was sent to Mexico following the Tampico Affair. She participated in the occupation of Vera Cruz from May 26, 1914, to August 8, and again from October 1 to December 26, 1914. Battleship Texas operated heavily in the Caribbean from January 1915 through March 1917. While the First World War continued, the United States remained neutral.
