Context

Battleship Texas was flagship of the United States Fleet from September 1, 1927, to September 15, 1931. Admirals Wiley, Pratt, and Chase served as Commander-in-Chief, United States Fleet in that time. Orville Johnson collected photos throughout his time as a sailor onboard Battleship Texas from 1929 to 1930. Clemson-class destroyers were heavily utilized in the interwar period and World War II. Between 1918 and 1922 a total of one hundred fifty-six were built and remained in commission globally until 1948.
