USS New York (BB-34) was the sister ship of USS Texas, and the lead ship of the New York-class battleships. She was commissioned from May 15, 1914, to August 29, 1946.
Howard F. Flood Jr. enlisted in the Naval Reserves with parent permission on February 14, 1941, and went through basic training from July 5 to August 3. He went to additional schooling through September 3, 1941. His first assignment was on Battleship Texas.
