Context

USS Texas (CGN-39) was the 3rd ship named USS Texas. She was a nuclear guided-missile cruiser commissioned from September 10, 1977, to July 16, 1993. Peter Fiedler was the first captain of the nuclear cruiser USS Texas (CGN-39) from October 1975 to January 1979. He supervised construction, and took official command on September 10, 1977, when the cruiser was commissioned.
