Description

Medal awarded to Peter Fiedler and a part of a trio of medals sewn together.

Context

Peter Fiedler was the first captain of the nuclear cruiser USS Texas (CGN-39) from October 1975 to January 1979. He supervised construction, and took official command on September 10, 1977, when the cruiser was commissioned. The China Service Medal was awarded in recognition of service in and around China before, during, and after World War II. The medal was established by Navy Department General Order No. 176 on July 1, 1942, and awarded retroactively beginning on July 7, 1937.
