Special issue “Independence Day” war bonds sold onboard USS New York during the bombardment at Okinawa. Bond was bought by Lt. Webb on June 10, 1945. Card is embossed “Department of the Navy” and “USS New York” with US crest in the center. Card has an image of the battleship in the top center.Context
USS New York (BB-34) was the sister ship of USS Texas, and the lead ship of the New York-class battleships. She was commissioned from May 15, 1914, to August 29, 1946.
Bernard A. Webb Jr. was a crew member on Battleship New York during WWII, who served during Operation “Iceberg” the bombardment of Okinawa, and bought a war bond during the battle.Collection
