Addressed to Mrs. W.E.P. Kelps from Bertrand Sargent. Postcard sent from USS Texas on the morning of June 2, 1941. Features landing forces in five images in the center and each corner. Letter on the back of the postcard commemorated Sargent joining the Navy.Context
Battleship Texas participated in various neutrality patrols and escort missions in the North Atlantic Ocean from November 1939 to December 7, 1941.
Battleship Texas had her own post office. All mail passed through a censor before leaving the ship. Once the package is checked, it was stamped with a “U.S.S. TEXAS” stamp. If in a port, mail could carry the markers of the post office on shore.
Sailors who were members of Landing Forces wore khaki articles over their blues. Included leggings and cartridge belts.Collection
