USS New York (BB-34) was the sister ship of USS Texas, and the lead ship of the New York-class battleships. She was commissioned from May 15, 1914, to August 29, 1946. She participated in the nuclear testing at Bikini Atoll on June 1, 1946, and was sunk as a target ship on June 6, 1946.
Larry P. Cox was a crew member on Battleship New York from the late 1910s through the early 1920s, likely 1917-1924. In his time on New York, Cox was a member of the ship baseball team and often wrote home to his darling.
“The Knickerbocker” was a biweekly paper, started in 1920, and published jointly by the midshipmen and enlisted men of Battleship New York. The paper was published until 1936, running a total of sixteen volumes, with some special issues.Collection
