Scope and Content

Envelope sent from USS Mindoro on October 30, 1951. The stamp features an image of USS Texas going through the Panama Canal.

Context

The Battleship Texas Museum was operated by the Battleship Texas Commission from 1948 to 1983. She was located at San Jacinto State Park on the Houston Ship Channel. USS Mindoro (CVE-120) was a Commencement Bay-class escort carrier commissioned from December 4, 1945, to December 4, 1955. She was sold for scrap to Hong Kong in 1960.
