Context

Battleship Texas visited Galveston on November 6, 1914, to receive the silver service of the first U.S.S. Texas (1895) and receive her own service onboard. She departed back to Vera Cruz on November 14, 1914. Samuel D. Miller (born Porfirio D. Miller) enlisted in the Navy on September 12, 1913, and was a seaman on Battleship Texas from March 12, 1914, to mid-1916. Texas was the first ship he served on, while he was a part of her commissioning crew. Many crew members kept photo albums that each have hundreds of photos chronicling their service onboard.
