Description

According to page 15 of the 1974 edition book Bay Village: A Way of Life, this is a photograph of the Selden Osborn house at 29059 Lake Road, circa 1870. The house was originally built in 1832. The book says it is believed to be the first house in the village to have a bathroom. The house still exists as of 2023. If this photo is of the Selden and Nancy Osborn house, then building has changed a lot from when this photograph was taken or perhaps was taken in the back of the home? Two drivers? stop in front of the two story, white clapboard home in a two horse carriage. A person is sitting inside the covered carriage. There is a person in suspenders and a tall hat standing inside the gate in front of the house. There is a dirt road, fence and several trees with full leaves in front of the house. The right side of the photo and house appears to show some sort of garage or parking for a carriage as it has a very large doorway opening. This photograph on cardstock paper was found at the Osborn Learning Center (OLC) in a map drawer. The original unmatted frame read on the back "Osborn Home, First House Built Between Cleveland and Lorain" which obviously would refer to Selden's father Reubens house (OLC) and not this house.
