Those invited to his fiftieth birthday celebration banquet, including councilmen, family, and friends, gathered in the Richards & McKean's dining parlors. It appears only men were in attendance. Cleveland Mayor R.R. Herrick attended. Lists many names in attendance, including J.J., D.K., L.J., and J.M. Cahoon, Thomas's brothers. Cahoon was presented with an elegant watch chain, a gold-headed cane, a rich set of eye glasses, cigar-holder and a finely carved horsewhip. Cahoon gave remarks about his life, including that he was born in Frederick, Md., July 7th, 1832. Talked about his father Joel and grandfather, Joseph. Thomas lived on the "farm" (Rose Hill) until 1851, the year he engaged with Roderick Calkins, ship-builder, remaining twelve years then connected himself with Latimer, Chappell & Co. on Center Street in the planing mill business.
