Scope and Content

2008.01.07A-D A correspondence outlining the history of Bayway Cabin and its most recent campaign towards an addition to the building. Reports on the purpose of the building, who helped, and how you can help. The new addition and the existing structure will provide 4700 square feet to serve as a community meeting place. The building will be devoted to the city and youth activities under the supervision of the Bay Village Recreation Board. It is open for all children from pre-kindergarten to High School. 2008.01.07E Two articles. The first is from the Plain Dealer titled, "Recreation in the County," on Sept 29, 1958. It reports on the recreation wide planning in the county. While there are many school board jurisdictions that have recreation programs, there is a critique of the organization of many of them. It continues to speak on the need for a countywide attitude towards the maintenance of the lakefront. The potential for lakefront recreation is difficult to report on due to a lack of unity towards lake pollution and beatification projects. They lament that if someone like Bill Stinchcomb was around in 1817, perhaps the entire lakefront would have become a parkspace; thus keeping the lake unpolluted. The last article is from the Cleveland Press titled, "Cabin Is Labor of Love," from November 1958. The Bayway Cabin has finally completed its addition. Starting as a spot dedicated to the youth in 1948, the Bayway cabin is now a meeting place for the YMCA, YWCA, scout groups, and school affairs. The city quickly outgrew the original building in 1956 and plans were made to enlarge the space. With the help of Kiwanis and Dr. Dean Sadler, $10,000 were raised for the effort. The city council gave another $3000 and $5000 respectively. With no money for labor, members of the Bay Men's Club and Lions club, along with other groups, donated their time to build the addition. Features a photo of the newly completed Bayway Cabin prominently showing off teh addition.
