Scope and Content

Aldrich Family Genealogy Genealogy material including: Aaron Aldrich III house restoration by Clifton I. Aldrich, 1944-46; letter from Grace Rollins Waltz listing Mayflower descendants, Aldrich, Bassett, Bates, Waterman, Williams and Winsor lines, May 25. 1968 and notes, undated. 3 pages. Information about Aaron Aldrich Sr. of Smithfield R.I. Father of Aaron Aldrich Jr. of Smithfield and Dover, Cuyahoga County, Ohio 1. Name — Aaron Aldrich (a) A deed dated 1815 from Daniel Winsor to one Aaron Aldrich (his son) bears the insert “Jr” after the sons name. (b) An old scrap of paper found in the sons letters has the following notation: “Aaron Aldrich 1740 – Sept.” [Alongside this notation is the calculation: 1838 − 1740 = 98.] which was evidently the fathers birth date & yr death. 2. Birth date — Sept 1740 (a) See statement 1 – (b) above. Conflicting information is a birth date for an Aaron Aldrich of Smithfield in R.I. vital statistics which gives Sept 1743 as the birth date. Inasmuch as the birth date of 1740 would make him 98 yrs old when he died it is possible that the recorder may have been off 3 years on the year. 3. Death date — 1838 (a) The slip of paper referred to in 1(a). This also [right edge cropped] lists the names and ages of the grandchildren living in R.I. at the time, as well as the Name “Mercy” 1769. 4. Wifes name — Mercy Hopkins (?) (a) See 1(a). The name “Mercy” appears below Aarons name with dates 1769 and 1832, evidently her year of birth and death. [Small added note:] See (b) for name “Hopkins.” 5. Married when — Probably about 1790 or sometime after the Revolution (a) There is no information on the date. It is known that one son was born in 1793. See also (c).
