Scope and Content

Newspaper article recounting the death of Laura Cahoon. BAY VILLAGE A very impressive memorial service was held at the church at the regular meeting of the Ladies' Aid Society for the late secretary, Miss Laura E. Cahoon, whose very sudden passing away was a shock to her many friends. Miss Liggett and Miss Lucy Osborn sang appropriate hymns, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought," and "In Heaven Love Abiding," Miss Julia Osborn Scott read Psalm 41, and Mrs. Jesse L. Saddler gave an account of the beautiful funeral service for Miss Cahoon. Dr. Duston Kemble, Rev. D.W. Knight, Rev. Joseph Callister and Dr. W.C. Endley, each bore a part in the service. Mrs. Saddler read the tribute paid Miss Cahoon as a teacher by Miss Augusta C. Thompson, principal of Detroit school, where Miss Cahoon taught for eight years. Mrs. Bailey read a poem written by Miss Cahoon for the church anniversary in 1907. Mrs. Russell Pope, who presided, added items of interest regarding Miss Cahoon and read a letter from Mrs. Ellinwood, whose absence in Asheville, N.C., prevented her attendance. The room was beautifully decorated and Miss Cahoon's picture was draped with flowers and the flag she loved. Mrs. Emma S. Benham called on her brother, F.C. Sites, Friday, on her way to spend two weeks with friends in Avon. Miss Hine of Youngstown spent the week end with Miss Cahoon. Miss Cahoon and Mrs. Bailey called upon Dr. Endly and family on Lake avenue, Elyria, last Thursday. Mrs. John Huntington is living on her beautiful farm this month. Miss Hollenbach and Miss Moore of Cleveland visited Rose Hill on Saturday.
