Newspaper article "Bay Villagers to Make Rafters Ring in Club Debut Saturday."
A gay dance at which strong drink will be conspicuous by its absence, will inaugurate Bay Villages new community center in Cahoon Park Saturday evening.
The dance sponsored by the Bay Village Men's Club, will be the first social affair in the new building, which was converted from a 100-year-old barn and haymow.
Only the shell of the once rambling barn, located at the rear of the old Cahoon homestead on West Lake Road, near Huntington Park was retained in the creation of the colonial style meeting house.
PROVISO OF WILL
The ban on drinking is the result of a proviso in the wills of Lydia, Laura and Ida Cahoon, last of the family, who died within the last decade.
They willed the vast estate to Bay Village, but only on condition that there be no drinking on the premises. If the proviso is violated the property will revert back to the Cahoon estate.
Similar provisos are in effect at the beach, tennis courts, with the added stipulations that there be no swimming, dancing or tennis playing on Sundays.
