Scope and Content

2008.01.07.09A Plain Dealer article, "Complete Youth Cabin," from November 1, 1958 by Berta Terrell. The "Do-it-Yourself" project of a Bayway Cabin addition is finished. Spearheaded by the Kiwanis club, $10,000 were raised through door-to-door efforts. Every available person from student to workman helped to make this dream a reality. The Youth center will provide space for high school dances, scout meetings, and youth activities for all. Features two photos. One of Bunnie Mifflin, Sue Rodman, Richard Hardy, and Charles Pecoy looking over blueprints. The other photo is of David Critzer, Jules Light, and Jim Szilagyi working on windows to help complete the cabin. 2008.01.07.09B Three Rocky River Herald articles. The first, "Bay Recreation," from November 20, 1958. With the near completion of the Bayway cabin, there is a need for a Youth Council that will create a policy of operations. The results of a questionnaire distributed by the Recreation board show that a majority want a canteen open house to be held after school and on Saturdays. Dancing, refreshments, and ping pong are some of the top requests made by students seventh through twelfth grade. An upcoming PTA meeting will allow parents to voice their viewpoints on the use of Bayway. The second article, "Jobs Still Remain At Bayway Cabin," from November 12, 1958. A request and call to action as their still remain many jobs that need to be completed at Bayway Cabin. Exterior shingling/painting; digging of trenches for drain; storm tile; installing of sheet rock insulation; and paneling of interior walls, ceiling, and vinyl tiles are still need to be completed. Letters are intended to be sent home with students requesting the help of Bay Village dads. The final article, "Bay Recreation Plans Square Dance Class," from December 25, 1958.
