Scope and Content

Article on the death of John Marshall Cahoon. HIS CARRIAGE OVERTURNED. FATAL ACCIDENT TO JOHN M. CAHOON, OF NORTH DOVER. He was a Prominent Business Man And Fruit Grower-Found Lying by the Wayside. John M. Cahoon, a prominent business man and fruit grower of North Dover, O., was killed by an unfortunate accident while driving yesterday. Mr. Cahoon lived on his farm called “Rose Hill.” Several miles from his home is a store that he owned. Every day he drove from his home to the store. The road that he used is not frequented by many teams. It leads through a dark and steep ravine. In some manner the carriage became overturned, throwing Mr. Cahoon to the ground. The horse ran several feet and then stopped with the overturned carriage still attached to him. The crash of the carriage as it went over attracted some small boys who immediately gave the alarm. Mr. Cahoon was taken to his home in a semi-conscious state. Several ribs were broken and one punctured the lungs. The accident occurred at 5 o'clock in the afternoon. Mr. Cahoon died at 11 o'clock from the internal hemorrhage. Dr. Hewitt and Dr. C.D. Ellis of Cleveland, who happened to be staying in Dover, attended Mr. Cahoon. Mr. Cahoon leaves four sisters and one brother. Three of the sisters teach in the Cleveland schools. They are the Misses Lydia Cahoon, Laura Cahoon and Ida Cahoon. The other sister, Miss Martha Cahoon, lives at Dover. Mr. Cahoon’s brother, Thomas Cahoon, lives on Franklin avenue in this city.
