Horsman cardstock paper doll and clothing advertising promotion. The set came on one piece of cardstock and were meant to be cut-out. The photo of the dressed doll was on the left with the following statement below: HORSMAN DOLLY / Here is a really true picture of the / Horsman Dolly who is sitting on a / counter in the store calling for you to be her / Mama. Those big blue eyes, rosebud / lips, and cunning dimples are waiting for / your kisses. Large blue bow in her hair on her left. Pink dress with squared neck and white inset. Bodice is plain with gathered skirt. Ruffles at the shoulder and hem of the skirt. White and blue striped socks and white shoes with blue band. 2021.Y.19.01.03.01B DOLLIES Playtime Dress Pink dress with two rows of smocking across the bodice, white Peter Pan collar with an open oval on the front bound in white. Long sleeves with white cuff and writing on her right one. Two white rectangular pockets with a pink bunny on her left and blue on her right. Manufacturers tag on the right cuff. Four paper tabs. 2021.Y.19.01.03.01C DOLLIES School Dress Blue dress with a matching Peter Pan collar and smocking across the central portion of the top. Long sleeves with white wide ribbon with bunnies printed or embroidered. The same ribbon is used above the hem and comes up and across on either side. Manufacturers tag on the left cuff. Four paper tabs. 2021.Y.19.01.03.01D DOLLIES Sunday Dress White dress with a blue polka dot Peter Pan collar edged in white. Yoke is gathered below with pointed blue patch pockets above the hem. The upper portion of the hem has blue trim. Long sleeves with blue matching cuff. Manufacturers tag on the left cuff. 2021.Y.19.01.03.01E DOLLIES Party Dress White dress with rounded yoke of pink having two ribbon flowers in the bottom of the yoke in the middle. White lace on the edge. Bodice is gathered white fabric with lace above the hem and a pink wide border at the bottom. White sleeves with lace edge. Manufacturers tag on the right below the yoke. Edward Imeson Horsman opened a toy company in New York City in 1865. In the early years they produced a number of composition dolls wearing wigs, molded or painted hair, sleep or painted eyes. About 1909 they used a new formula to make "Can't Break 'Em" dolls like the Billiken. These paper dolls were used as an advertising ploy to purchase the dolls.
