Lawyer in South Dakota Claims The Have No Right to it.
If the contention set up in Common Pleas Court here by Ernest C. Johnson an attorney of Black Hills, S.Dak., succeeds, he may come into an interest in valuable Bay Village land.
Misses Ida, Lydia and Laura Cahoon, who for many years have believed themselves the owners of the land, attempted to sell it a few weeks for $12,000 and in order to give unclouded title, brought proceedings in court to clear up any possible claim against the property.
They claim that an ancestor, Joseph Cahoon, the first settler in Dover Township deeded the land to their father, Joel Cahoon in 1837. The deed was lost, they declare, before being recorded.
Now comes Ernest Johnson, through his lawyers, Horr & Lewenthal, with a denial that they have good title to the property. The fact that records display no deed to their father shows, he days that no deed was ever made, and that although they have deemed themselves owners for many years, they have no rightful possession.
