Scope and Content

Letter from Julia Ann Winsor and John D. Weld to Elizabeth Winsor and Aaron Aldrich This a personal letter from Julia to her sister in Dover, Elizabeth discussing their lives and how much she misses her. Another section is written to Aaron from Julia's husband, John D. Weld. The portion of the letter to Elizabeth has been transcribed and included in Retracing Footsteps, Lakeside Cemetery, Bay Village, Cuyahoga County, Ohio; by Catherine Burke Flament for the Bay Village Historical Society, p. 209-210. Julia writes to Aaron regarding how her brother, asked her father, August, for a loan of $2,500 dollars which was not given. Aaron has not been in the house since. He did acquire a mortgage on his farm to secure the money. There is further discussion of this and then information about family. Page 3 Henry of course can inform about his Fathers family better than I can sister Lydias mind is so engrossed with the great changes that are taking place that I seldom see or hear from her with out the most minute inquiry but it is not strange Oh, I was going to tell you about Nancy she was very well indeed when I was there a little more than a week ago and I have not heard from her since but am anxious to hear there never was any body better suited to be sure and it is cause for Thankfulness they have everything comfortable convenient and as much style as in consistent with good judgement to say nothing of christianity I need not say how much I want to see you and your family your children are all so large that I suppose you and Mr Aldrich enjoy your selves very much in going meeting and visiting together have you a Preacher that suites you and is there much attention to religion generally in that quarter and as it respects yourselves I should be pleased to hear how you get along it is rather a low time I believe in this neighbour- -hood. Julia anns ill health must be a great affliction to you as well herself ---[hole in letter] she is enabled to put her trust in God remembering that he does not willingly afflict the children of men and in whatever he does he has gracious purposes to fulfill.
