Scope and Content

Letter from Margaret A. Cahoon to her son Joseph. Writing to tell him that she is feeling better, but still weak from illness. Handwritten in black ink: 1916 Broadway 2.19.92. My Dear Joseph, I thought I would write to you, although your sisters have written several times, I know you will be pleased to receive a letter from me. I was not so well for a few days but am thankful to say I am better again, I am still weak, have not been out of the house since you left, I continue the "Malline," and have taken milk punch several times. I think my appetite is some better. The sauerkraut lasted until Monday, when Laura bought some more and I eat of it every day. I do not know when I will go home not until I am stronger and the weather is more favourable. I was quite lonesome after you left. Thomas came and spent the afternoon after he left you. Back: It is raining very hard and has been all day. We expect Martha down Monday to spend her birthday. You will please think of us about dinner time. Lizzie was to see me Tuesday and Thomas spent the afternoon and took tea with us. Ida's rheumatism is very painful to day. Your sister and Laura are as well as usual, I saw by the papers there had been a large fire in Memphis, I also heard that McGillen's store was burned last night. I have no news to interest you. All join me in much love to you my dear son. your loving mother Margaret A. Cahoon Maggie Young has just come in to see me. M.A.C. Dr. Jewitt has been confined to the house since last Sunday.
