There is also discussion of local political matters as well. Buckeye Cottage, Sept 27th 1840 Dear Brother. Sister, We have this day received yours of the 14th and was much pleased to hear from you, we have been anxiously expecting a letter from you for some time; I wrote to you soon after we commenced housekeeping and requested you to write soon, we have not received your June letter. I was sorry to hear that you had been sick, we were fearful that you would all have the fever. We have all enjoyed health except Brother D.K. he was about ten days quite sick, but is now in very good health, Lydia also had a fever chills she is quite well. I have no news to communicate We expect to be done here about the early part of November. I wrote you a long letter in July in which I gave you a description of our cabin I suppose you have not received it. I feel much better satisfied in my cabin than I have ever been since I left Maryland. Melissa you want to know if I will board you bye and bye. I would be delighted to have you come up if you think you could put up with log cabin fare. I think from present appearances you will have to come up to a wedding party. I purpose giving Brother Daniel I do not know exactly when it will be he says when General Harrison is elected President then he is to be [p. 2] married to Miss M A Dusky at least I say so. Brother Daniel was down to New Albany to attend an arbitration on Moulton & Weisinger & Joel case with the state of Indiana. the award for the former was between three and four thousand dollars the latter five hundred and twenty four. We have just received a letter from Mr Moulton in which he informs us both cases are appealed. Daniel expects to visit New Albany next week again, Mr Overturf has sold out his establishment and is now acting as justice of the peace. We have received no letters from our friends in Ohio since we saw you. There was a gentleman called here about the middle of August direct from Norwalk, he saw Franklin a few days before he left. they were all well. he was an acquaintance of yours. but we have forgotten his name. Daniel was at the great Convention at Dayton there were about seventy five thousand persons present he was very much pleased with- his jaunt. General Harrison has just returned from a tour through Ohio state Daniel saw him to day, he appeared to be well and in fine spirits. Datus Kelly has made an estimate on Harrisons majority in this state which he puts down at from seventeen to twenty five thousand, We send you a paper containing General Harrisons speech at Dayton. There is to be a whig Convention on Thursday the first of October in Cincinnati. The children all send their love to you and yours. Lydia says Anastasia must come up and see her, she has a new doll. Kenyon can [p. 3] hurrah for Tip and hard cider. Oscar creeps about and has eight teeth he is not very well I think it is his teeth. Thomas and Joseph says that I must write Aunt Melissa and Uncle William to come up and see us. Melissa keep yourself in readiness to be here to welcome our sister Margaret Ann I will write you as soon as I hear the time. I fancy to myself that I will be pleased with her. You must tell Anastasia that she shall come and see her new Aunt or her Uncle Daniels Mother. Uncle Daniel and Joel send their love and a kiss to her. You will please write soon and let us know how you come on. I must now close my scrawl.
