Letter from Randall Crawford, lawyer, in New Albany, Indiana to Joel B. Cahoon discussing the results of the deposition of Mr. McKinley concerning payments made and due on Cahoon's account.
New Albany April 4, 1849
Mr Joel B Cahoon
Dear Sir
Yours of 23d. ult. is recd. Mr McGinleys deposition has been taken; he has forgotten almost all the particulars, can't say anything definite as to the various amounts of money you paid out, nor what length of time you were obtained, but thinks several months, your time worth about $60 per month & board $4 per week, & that you made all the preparation for the trial, & he would not do what you did for less than $1000_ that the trouble of getting the money was worth much more than the money. I sent copies of your account to Overturf & Moulton. Overturf says he cannot remember a single item of it or of the case, & shall not take his depositions. Moulton remembers scarcely anything, but will probably take his deposition. Mr Smith has taken no property, if he does not, perhaps the case may as well be submitted at the next term as at any other time. We never can have many particulars. The court will begin April 23rd.
Respectfully Hc [etc]
R Crawford
