Letter to Joel B. Cahoon from Randall Crawford, lawyer, in New Albany, Indiana indicating that the legislature has passed a law to pay Mr. Cahoon the $750 owed.
New Albany Sept 8, 1847
Mr. JB Cahoon
Dr Sir
I received a letter from you dated July 9th & answered it July 28th. I think one has been since received but it is mislaid & its contents not remembered.
The Legislature passed a law last winter that the amount of your award should be paid, but there was then no surplus money in the Treasury, & it is likely I shall be able to get the money when am at Indianapolis next Nov. The amount is now about $750. My fee will be for all my trouble $100. Don't think you can sell to Good advantage. To avoid all difficulty it will be well for you to send me a power of attorney to receive the money as supported in my last.
Respectfully Hc [etc.}
R Crawford
