Letter from William H. Cahoon to Ida Cahoon clarifying questions she had regarding the relationships in the Cahoon family genealogy. 2000.FIC.02.004A [Upside down] I thank you for the clippings. 69 Gladstone Ave., / Detroit, Mich., Nov. 19, 1916 My dear Miss Cahoon: Your two welcome letters received, - and many thanks. In the matter of W.M. and Ebenezer, I think maybe I can make clear to you the relationships: Ebenezer 3 had Benjamin, 4, Ebenezer 4, William 4 & Reynolds 4. Benjamin 4 - I have nothing {Rev War Ebenezer 4 - I have nothing {Rev War William 4 - had Ebenezer 5 & William 5 Reynolds 4 - you have [p. 2] You descend from Reynolds 4 and I from Wm. 4. It may interest you to know that Wm. 4's son Wm. 5 had a son Reynolds 6 who was a Mormon with plural wives. In regard to Bathania Whitcomb, I will give you the following which I copied from a History of Herkimer Co., N.Y. Wm. Reynolds 7 Cahoon, born Feb. 14, 1823, in Little Falls, Hook Co., son of Reynolds 6 Cahoon, born about 1786 in Salisbury, son of Benjamin 5 Cahoon, a ship captain of Rhode Isl and d who died at Middleville. Reynolds 6 m. Bathiana Whitcomb & had, Solomon S. 7, Benj. S. 7, Wm R, 7, Lyman 7, Emily J. 7, & Mary A. 7. He died 1879 age 93; his w. 2000.FIC.02.004B d. 1874 age 75. Wm. Reynolds 7 Cahoon m. Jane Utter of Sodus, N.Y., (dau. of John M. Utter) in May 1847 and had Chas E. 8 and Clara J. 8 Chas. E. Now, I believe that Benjamin 5 mentioned was a son of Reynolds 4 and Mary (Rathbun) Cahoon. Please let me know if you can contradict this. I hope shortly to have some definite information on this as my mother is acquainted with Mrs. Lydia Hull Larued, who lives in N.Y. City. It may interest you that Reynolds Cahoon, the Mormon, married [p. 3] Stiles, - Thiza Stiles. I thank you for letting me see cousin Lou's letter, I think however that he is mistaken. His grandfather, John 6 Cahoon had one brother and one sister. I understand, - the brother went west early in life and was never heard of again.- the daughter died at about 17. I will write Cousin Lou. I am returning his letter herewith. I had some information on B.B. Cahoon and I thank you for some additional data. It is believed that the Delaware Cahoons came from Cape Cod. The following Cahoon information may interest you 2000.FIC.02.004C [upside down] My genealogy, thus far, contains about 350 names. in connection with your Cahoons. Nathaniel Cahoon, one of the earliest settlers of Yates Co., N.Y., had Jared, Stewart (m. Sinah Davis, dau. John & Leah (Rogers) Davis) & Jerusha (m. Dennis Dean. Stuart Cahoon (above) lived in Yates Co., until 1820 when he removed to Erie Co., Pa. He had Russell, John, Charles, David & Maria. The Nathaniel you mentioned I cannot place unless he was the son of Nathaniel above. The Russell you mentioned [p. 6] may have been the one above. I wish you could give me all the dates you have of the persons mentioned in your book. Haven't you some manuscript you can let me look over. I will return in promptly. I have located a member of Cahoons but cannot connect them with the Cahoons, but expect to do so. They seem to come from Connecticut, originally. I will close now & retire.
