Front Right: Dover Cuyahoga Co Ohio April 18th/92 Dear Brother + Sister It may be a surprise to you to get a letter from me but as Aaron is gone and Henry has been on his back for the last two months I think as I am your only Brother that can write to you now that it is a duty and pleasure for me to write to you A week ago yesterday I went and stayed with Henry 3 days I think he will never be well again but he hopes to get so as to be around and see to business some is all that he expects. I will tell you how he is he had a stopage of his water and has had to have it drawed off he is some better of that now but there is another trouble still worse than that There is a large bunch growing inside the Rectum that is so large that nothing can Back left: pass his bowels unless he takes physic + uses a syringe to inject something evry time he has anything pass his bowels Dr ?Lathroy? is his Dr he goes to see him evry other day I should have gone to see him yesterday but it was so rainy I did not go I shall go again soon and then will write you again I am and have been keeping a Meat Market at the center of Dover the last three winters I have just closed my market + I spend my summer at the Northport Leelanau Co Mich I have 300 acre famr + 50 nice Vilage lots and some money drawing ?then it Ink? and enough by me to pay my travel expences Charlie Braman runs my farm he is doing well he has 2 Span horses + 10 cows sells all his milk ?5 es a qt? to Boats + to the vilage customers he has a Wife + 2 children 1 boy + a girl they are both real smart + have a good education I suppose you have heard of yout aunt Emelines Death Back Right: She died at Martin Bramans in Elyria about 3 weeks ago The old residents of Dover have nearly all passed away ?Esq Far? is alive yet him + his Wife are both very feeble he is 87 + sets up about 2 hours a day Mr ?Glotg? is very sick there has been a good deal sickness here this winter and a number of deaths Charlie Hubbards Wife was buried 2 weeks ago Frank Sadler married Carrie Miller and lives on he AJ Bright place on the shore there has been so many changes in Dover and avon that it don't seem like home anymore The whole tribe of Bateses have had a reunion last week Hamilton Bates Wife + 2 girls are from Wisconsin he has sold out and rumor says he has 6 dollars a day ?Inl? money. Daniel Bates + Wife are alive + jawing yet Harison + Lucy was down from Toledo on a visit just gone back Wm. + Nett are above board and feel as if they were some pumpkins Front Left: As this is the first letter that I have written you in a long time you cannot expect very much news I have had 2 letters lately from Juliana + Goodrich they are well but feel the affects of old age their children are all from home married and gone Amy is quite well this winter will write soon as you get this and Direct to Dover Ohio as I shall not go to Mich until about the 1st of Jan I am at NB Hursts he has a large country store at the center and I have a meet market in the back end of Store Ida lives with ?Kit? and I only stay with them winters I expect to visit some in Chicago this summer My son Wm has 2 daughters married + live ther + I intend to go to the worlds fair next summer- Yours as ever 74 yrs. + well as ever Wm.
