DEATH OF J.J.CAHOON
A Well Known Mechanical Engineer of Memphis, Tenn., Passes From Life at Dover-A Resident of the South Since 1859
Mr. J. Joseph Cahoon died on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at his mothers home in Dover. Mr. Cahoon was born in Frederick, Md,, but when a lad his parents made their home near Cleveland and here his boyhood years were passed. In 1857 he visited several Southern cities, settling upon Memphis, Tenn., as his place of residence and that city continued to be his home. From earliest childhood he evinced a mechanical genius, which developed with his years, His inventions were specially profitable, to the cotton industry to the south, and attracted the attention of many Eastern and foreign capitalists. He possessed many characteristics of a true genius, being thoughtful, philosophical, and decided in his opinions, though possessing much quiet humor. He was a true friend. As a son and brother his love was ardent and beautiful. When his robust frame began suddenly to fail he immediately placed himself in the care of his loved ones, and bravely and patiently endured till the end came. He was the second son of the late Joel B. Cahoon, so long prominently identified with every interest in this vicinity. Messrs. Thomas H. Cahoon, of this city, and J. Marshall Cahoon are his brothers. Mr. Cahoon was unmarried and had just passed his sixtieth birthday.Collection
