Death of Miss Cahoon
Miss Laura Ellen Cahoon died at the family residence, Rose Hill, Bay Village, Ohio, June 2. But a short time ago, the older sister, Lydia, was called to her heavenly home, and the double bereavement leaves Miss Ida M. Cahoon, quite alone, the last of a large and interesting old family. Great sympathy is felt for the sister thus bereft, for though brave in spirit and a woman of many resources, she is physically an invalid. Joseph Cahoon, the grandfather of the family, was the founder of Dover Township, and the history of the Cahoon family has been closely identified with the development of educational and religious interest in that suburb of Cleveland. All of the Cahoon sister were teachers in the public schools of Cleveland. Miss Laura completing nearly fifty years of continuous service. They were an intensely patriotic family celebrating each national event with elaborate pains and with a sincere devotion. Miss Laura taught the first grade, and it was her custom to have a flag over her schoolroom door. Every morning her little people saluted it and gave the pledge of allegiance. Thousands of children will recall her lessons on patriotism and love for God, taught lovingly to them as little children. Dr. Levi GilbertCollection
