Scope and Content

Card commissioned by the President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan as the 1988 White House Christmas card. Watercolor by Thomas William Jones. He was commisioned to paint the cards from 1985-1988. A. Card features the North Entry Hall of the White House in Washington, D.C.. Grey marble columns on the right and left sides in the forefront with green swags hanging from the poles. The focal point is an elaborate gold mirror over a table. There is a swag above it with red long bows on either side. The table has two small trees with snow and branches protruding and a red bow on the left and smaller one on the right. Below the table are poinsettia which is also on the left forefront of the card. The print is outlined with a thin red line, gold line and then embossed to frame it. The artist signature on the print is on the lower right and he has personally signed our copy in pencil below the embossing. The bottom edge is deckled. B. Envelope with THE WHITE HOUSE in gold print on the top left front. There is an embossed seal on the back flap. Inside in gold script on an attached paper that is adhered at the top: The President and Mrs. Reagan / extend to you warm wishes / that your holidays and the coming year / will be filled with happiness and peace. 1988 Tissue over script Back of card: "North Entry Hall at Christmas," The White House @1988 Thomas William Jones Hallmark
