Letter of recommendation from L. Peltit Superintendent of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad identifying Mr. Cahoon as the contractor for the eighth section of the railroad. It attests to Mr. Cahoon's character and abilities as an engineer and sober individual.

May 19th 1831-
[Narrow section missing] bearer of this Mr Cahoon is the contractor [missing] the third section of the 5th division of the [rail] road, which section is in active progress, and [missing] doubts remain of the completion within the limits of the contract - say the 1st of June next We believe Mr Cahoon to be a gentleman of honesty and sobriety, and one on whom efficiency [missing] a contractor much reliance may be placed [missing] is with pleasure that this testimony is borne in his favor
