To Reuben Osborn, Esq. Greeting:
It being certified to me, that you are duly elected Captain of the eighth Company second battalion fourth regiment, fourth brigade and fourth division of the Militia of this state.
...I do, by these presents, Commission you as Captain of Said Company hereby authorising and requiring you, to discharge all the singular duties and services appertaining to your office agreeable by law, and such instruction as you shall from time to time receive from your superior officers.
In testimony whereof, I have herunto set my name, and caused the Great Seal of the State of Ohio, to be affixed at Columbus, the fourth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventeen, and in the forty-second year of the Independence of the United States of America.
