Scope and Content

No heading attached. By Doris O'Donnell Five photographs with the building along with individuals labeled. An old metal barn in Bay Village holds the Thespian hopes of the community. It is the first home of the Bay Players--now in their 23d year--although not large enough to hold an audience of villagers, it will at least qualify as a genuine workshop. The aged, sagging, rust-colored structure is on the property of Mrs. Beth Barber at Bradley and Link Roads, Bay Village. Mrs. Barber, president of the Players, and her husband, Gresham M.M. Barber, treasurer of the group, donated the building for the workshop and prop storage purposes. WORK ON IT EVERY SATURDAY "We only used the barn for storage anyway," Mrs. Barber explained. Since the barn became the Players' property, the men in the Players group have spent Saturday mornings pouring cement flooring, re-enforcing ceiling and wall supports, and lining the interior with sound-proofing. A small stage will be built on a future Saturday before workshop activities can begin. All the labor and sweat go on while other members of the Players rehearse enthusiastically for their forthcoming production, "Spring Again," which opens in the Bay High School on Feb. 23 for a three-day run. KEEP COFFEE BOILING While her husband hammers and saws away, Mrs. Barber keeps the coffee pot boiling for refreshment. The work crew includes James Robinson, [516] Glen Park Dr., also stage manager; John Huey, 24011 Bruce Rd., member of the cast; Ed Young, 285 Elmwood Rd., stage hand; William Pieper, 24215 Bruce Rd., another member of the cast; Richard Van Almen, 429 Elmwood rd., stage hand, and John Smith 26603 Knickerbocker Rd., stage hand. In between reading scripts, the distaff members of the Players stitch drapes. Among the grease paint seamstresses are Mrs. James Murr, 447 Oakmoor Rd., program chairman; Mrs. William Demmerle, 351 Bayview Rd., assistant stage manager; Mrs. Marty Robinson, [516] Glen Park Dr., workshop director; Mrs. Betty Pieper, 24215 Bruce Rd., club vice-president and production manager, and Mrs. Olive Harris, 355 Elmwood Ave. publicity chairman.
