Scope and Content

"The Bay Yacht Club" by Kay Rothaermel Laughlin, published in The Shoreline Newsletter of the Bay Alumni Foundation. Kay's article discusses a history of The Bay Yacht Club and its boathouse, owned by Henry C. Wischmeyer. Four photos: 3 of the model sailboats on water, one of 8 members (young men) in the club. Kay credits information for the article to Bob Asher ('46) and states that is a shame the publishers of the upcoming book "Bay Village" by Virginia L. Peterson and Sally Irwin Price won't include it. Talks about the club, Henry C. Wischmeyer and his boat models. Club of Bay High School students ages 13 to 18 formed by Dick Miller and Bob Asher was commodore. Credited as youngest yachting club in the area in 1940. Henry built the first four boats in a fleet. All boats were home-made either by Henry, the boys themselves or their parents. Many of the names listed fought in WWII. The club ended after WWII in 1946 or 1947. On the back of the article is the front of the original newsletter copy with letter from the president of the Bay Alumni Foundation, Paul Hartranft ('64).
