Description

Victorian Potichomania glass globe or orb featuring decoupage botanical and animal illustrations under the glass. Cream colored background. The technique uses reverse decoupage. The paper images are glued to the interior surface of a clear glass ball, which is then painted with an opaque background color (usually white, cream or light blue to seal the edges. The globe has a polar bear, wolf, sheep, pansies, roses, forget-me-nots, lilies among others. 1.25" pontil mark at the bottom, which is a scar or ring-shaped mark on the base of a hand-blown glass item, created when a metal rod (the pontil/punty) is detached after holding the piece during shaping. It indicates individual crafting and is a key indicator of hand-blown, rather than machine-made, production. Types include rough, polished, and open scars.
