Cahoon Fatally Injured in A Runaway Accident last Evening. John Marshall Cahoon, one of the best known residents of North Dover, died at his home, "Rose Hill," at 11 o'clock last evening from injuries received by being thrown from his buggy. Mr. Cahoon was the youngest son of the late Joel B. and Margaret A. Cahoon, who were the first settlers of Dover township, making their home there in 1810. Reference is to the grandparents of John Marshall, Joseph and Lydia. The family is well known in the vicinity. Mr. Cahoon owned large vineyards and a store. Last evening about 5 o'clock Mr. Cahoon left the house on the way to the store which is about half a mile distant. He went by a short cut instead of going by the road and on the way is a steep ravine. It is thought that while descending into this ravine the buggy made a short turn and capsized, frightening the horse, which ran away. Mr. Cahoon was dragged some distance by the frightened animal and it is thought struck against a tree or stump. The members of the family at the house heard the noise of the runaway and hastened to the scene. Mr. Cahoon was picked up unconscious and taken to the house in a buggy. Dr. E.H. Jewett of this city, an old friend of the family was at the house at the time, spending a vacation. Dr. C.D. Ellis of Detroit road and Dr. C.W. Stahl of Dover Center were also called. The efforts of the physicians, however, proved to no avail. Several ribs had been broken and penetrated the lungs, causing internal hemorrhages, from which he died at 11 o'clock without regaining consciousness. Mr. Cahoon was a single man and lived at "Rose Hill" with his sister, Martha. Three other sisters, the Misses Ida, Lydia and Laura Cahoon, are school teachers in this city. Mr. Thomas Cahoon of Franklin avenue is the brother of the deceased.
