Daybook of James McDonald Bates, Westchester County Sheriff BHS records entry: "A register & journal [daybook] of business and accounts of James M. Bates, sheriff of the County of Westchester, commenced Jany 1st 1847 [and extending through 1849]. n.p. 380 + 35 leaves. 12 3/4 x 8 in. Manuscript. Pages left blank at intervals. Includes occasional noted of settlements to Apr. 9, 1851. Two handwritten alphabetical indexes laid in. Also, seven loose sheets, dated between 1846 and 185, laid in. Contents: Records of writs of Fieri Facias, declarations, notes to collect, judgements, capias, executions, decrees and orders for sale, discharges of attachment. Accounts against the State of New York for transfer of prisoners. Accounts of business and services for Westchester County (Bedford Court House p.123+) Accounts of causes noted on calendar.
