Wine silk wedding dress, beaded top with shoes to match, worn by Lillian Williams Hoyt at her wedding on September 3, 1885. Later updated in 1905.
Dress originally had long sleeves and a bustle. In 1905 the dress was remodeled and trimmed with iridescent copper beaded fringe in order to be worn at her cousin's golden wedding anniversary.
William's was the daughter of James F. Williams, one of the principles of Bedford Academy, and sister of Phoebe Williams Lewis (wife of Palmer Lewis). Williams attended the Academy and then taught at the Stone Jug School House.
